The large sized armies are definitely unique, but like in the old Cossack games they required great control tools for those units. The previous Cossack unit control tools have a lot of room for improvement.
It's fairly easy to grasp the controls of Cossacks 1 large armies after you play it for a while. Although the game is over 10 years old and so we will certainly be hoping and expecting more improved controls for Cossacks 3. It's all good saying Cossacks 3 will be 95% like Cossacks 1, but there are many things that should be improved for a 2015 game. I have faith in the devs though, they created some of my favourite rts games in the past. Games i still play to this day. Very few companies can make a game that i still play over 10 years later.
I cannot agree more with that line. Those are the games that really make a mark on people. Perfectly balanced games that are simple but complicated and the gameplay never gets old. What most people who like the genre are expecting is mainly a graphic and physics update worthy of a 2015 release.
Exactly, although when the beta comes i hope the community can help with balance. There were some very unbalanced things in back to war, Ukraine being one of them.
I agree. Though it's funny how some of the classic RTS games remained good for a long time. Starcraft 1 was good for a long time. SC2 was a huge disappointment to my mind. Cossacks 1 was great and stayed good forever or at least until C3! AC/FB and C2 were not my cup of tea. Supreme Commander stayed good for a long time and has now morphed (or been modded) into Forged Alliance Forever and it is still good. But Cossacks 1 (plus mods) has been the greatest RTS so far... soon to be eclipsed by C3! I have every confidence that C3 will be good.
It's not only the huge army but also the tactics you use in battle, not the simple rock-paper-scissors principle of the other RTS. In Cossacks also the hills played a role in battles. And also we shouldn't forget that Cossacks had one of the most beautiful buildings of all the RTS's.
Definitely the tactics used in battle are what make C1 great, and well it was what made all RTS around the time and later that were similar in overall ga,play unique in then RTS genre.
