Which starting ressources do you prefer? 1k; 5k; thousands or millions?
I like to play with the least amount because the focus lies more on the building and planning side of things. If you start with 5k ressources it gets going alot quicker and you dont have to make many choices between techs, army upgrades and peasant distribution. C3 is always about pumping out as many army as you can, but i think it becomes a mere "chore" when you start with more than 5k ressources. There isnt alot of planning and more quickly setting up barracks, stables and the like.
    What do you think?

I used to play with 1k because the base building feel the most rewarding with this start. I would even add not using the market. If the game is relaxed I even take time to make my base looking good, it's got no purpose but it's fun.
Nowadays I play more often on 5k because most people prefer to choose this, the game is faster but it's a good compromise. More ressources and I just don't join the game because I feel there is no point in base building and choice to make between upgrades, it also make the first century of the game irrelevant.

Thats how i see it as well. But i mostly play with friends who also played c1 and we always started with 1k res. I recently tried out the other modes and wondered why they were more popular. I agree with you about the 17th century. It is just neglected in the higher two modes. Many Nations like Algeria, Turkey, Russia and Scotland have an advantage in this time period due to many small bonusses and they dont compare in a thousands or millions game with the exception of russia. They are just all around a good nation.

Wasn't 1k the standard in Cossacks 1? I think in Cossacks 3 the standard starting conditions are 5k ressources, which I find kinda weird for the reasons already listed. It doesn't play to the strengths of the game mechanics to just start the game with basically everything.
